Working to walk again and get back to my business.

Dear family, friends, and friends of friends,

Thank you for your prayers and kind words as I have begun my long and slow recovery process. For those of you who don’t know, on January 18th I fell from scaffolding while at work and shattered my left knee and right heel. I was in the hospital for 11 days and went through two intensive surgeries. Over the next six months, I will be healing and learning how to walk again.

I am very blessed to have a close network of family and friends to tend to my immediate every day needs, and provide me with encouragement, love, and some emergency funds. Special shout-out to my partner Peggy, who keeps a roof over my head and provides me with daily care and love. However, my longer-term financial needs are larger than my personal savings and the immediate support of my children, siblings, and Peggy can meet.

It’s certainly not easy to ask for help, especially financial, but here I am. As one might imagine, the medical bills are coming in and are astronomical. Additionally, I will be unable to walk (and thus, work), for several months, which leaves me with no income. Physical therapy is critical for my healing process, but also incredibly expensive. Therefore, I am asking you to contribute what you comfortably can, resting assured that what goes around comes around, and my family and I will be forever grateful. If you are unable to support me financially, prayers, kind notes, encouragement, and visits are equally appreciated.

Here’s the very good news: I am motivated to make a more than full recovery, and dedicated to becoming sustainably healthy and fit. It is my hope and belief that I will not only recover the use of both legs, but going forward will be in even better shape than before. I have revamped my diet (going temporarily vegan, as a cleanse, reducing meat intake and increasing veggies and greens), I have eliminated alcohol from my lifestyle while I heal, and I am beginning regular workouts with a trainer to make sure that the working parts of my body, including my mind, stay strong and healthy throughout this process.

My day-to-day includes dog walking (rolling), puzzles, visiting with neighbors, plenty of Netflix, and texting daily proof to my drill-sergeant daughter that I ate my spinach for lunch. I spend a lot of time being grateful that my injuries are not worse, and a lot of time planning for the future, which is very bright. Your generosity is humbly appreciated. Know that whatever I can do for you in return, I will. Please feel free to get in touch directly if you would like to chat.

Love,

Andy
