Homeless Family in Need

My name is Stephanie Williams. I'm a single mother with three sons, a part-time college student at UMA (Ultimate Medical Academy) studying to become a Clinical Medical Assistant, and I am now employed as a Medical Receptionist at Premier Primary Care in College Park, GA. Until early September, I lived at the Efficiency Lodge extended-stay hotel in Decatur, GA. At the hotel I was a victim of stolen rent payments from the former property manager and we had to live in unsafe conditions of excessive mold, rats, and so much more. Then, in early September, after losing my job and while recuperating from a major surgery, former Governor Roy Barnes and his brother, Ray Barnes, allowed my children and I along with several other out-of-work families to be evicted at gunpoint during the Covid-19 pandemic.

When we were evicted, my sons and I were immediately forced out of the only place we could call home into homelessness. My children and I had nowhere to go so we had to sleep in our car.

On November 18th, I tested positive for Covid-19 and immediately went into isolation. I ended up being hospitalized at Grady Hospital after having difficulty breathing and spent four days there. Because of my past history of pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) and having trouble breathing along with other symptoms I was experiencing, my ER visit turned into a full blown hospital admission.

Since being released from the hospital I have been unable to return to work due to having Covid-19 and my family and I are experiencing a terrible financial hardship just to stay afloat. This has truly been one of the most difficult times in our lives. I am reaching out for help to allow my children and I to find stable housing and become independent and self-sufficient again.
