In April 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that the term "sex" in the Equality Act refers to biological sex. Since then, numerous trans-hostile groups have attempted to make the lives of trans people even more difficult.
Numerous individuals, trustees, societies, charities, and organisations have been threatened with “lawfare.” Some, including Girlguiding, The Women’s Institute, and The Labour Party, have capitulated by taking actions to exclude trans people—specifically trans women—from organisations they have been part of for years.
At a TransLucent Directors' meeting on the 23rd of March, 2026, it was decided to expand our GoFundMe fundraiser, originally set up to defend Hampstead Health Ponds, to include other issues that will likely involve litigation.
However, our initial priority remains Hampstead Heath Ponds.
Within the last two weeks, we learnt that the trans hostile group Sex Matters has made a successful bid to appeal their High Court loss, and in consequence, our lawyers Leigh Day have again written to the Court informing them of our wish to intervene.
But it doesn't stop there. Other cases on the horizon where we could make a legal impact include:
1: NHS England's proposal to stop HRT for the under-18s
2: The Keira Bell/James Esses attempt to stop puberty blockers reaching trans youth.
3: GLP (and others) v EHRC
Why support TransLucent?
One key aspect is that, as a dedicated transgender advocacy organisation, we have legal STANDING —which means we have real “skin in the game.”
Secondly, all donations go exclusively to trans causes (costs including fees and other disbursements relating to legal actions), NOT to other issues that may not concern the trans community.
Thirdly, our track record: we take great care in selecting the legal cases we pursue, whether in the public eye or behind the scenes.
Q: Will TransLucent be able to undertake litigation in all of the cases we mention?
A: That depends on how much is "in the pot" - the current target only reflects Hampstead Heath Ponds.
A little more about Hampstead Heath Ponds:
The Hampstead Heath Ladies’ Pond is a cherished sanctuary, known for its peace and inclusivity. It has long been a safe haven for all women, including trans women, who have swum there for years "without incident".
But now, this vital inclusive space is under immediate and pressing legal threat.
The trans hostile group Sex Matters is crowdfunding legal action against the City of London Corporation to ban trans women from the Ladies' Pond.
TransLucent believes trans women should still be able to use the pond, and our lives are not a debate. Other women users widely share this view, as the video produced by The Standard demonstrates.
The Kenwood Ladies’ Pond Association (KLPA) supports keeping the pond open to all women and girls over the age of eight, as did a Public Consultation hosted by the City of London Corporation, in which 86% of people voted to keep it trans-inclusive.
Legal experts confirm the Supreme Court ruling does not mandate exclusion, but only justifies it in "limited and proportionate circumstances".
There is no history of safety issues here.
