Please support my work with the Sanctuary Caravan.
Asylum seekers and refugees fleeing violence and persecution need safe passage.
I am volunteering with the New Sanctuary Coalition and its Sanctuary Caravan. We are a group of volunteers from all over the country who support the thousands of asylum applicants currently waiting in Tijuana to be processed. As a volunteer, I am helping our migrant friends navigate this bureaucracy, and then accompany them as they cross the border.
I am asking you to support my work with the Sanctuary Caravan at this time when the most vulnerable among us are being targeted by hateful rhetoric and physical violence.
I am raising funds to travel to San Diego/Tijuana to work with migrants there. As a volunteer, I pay for my own travel, lodging and food expenses. My goal is to raise $2000. Anything left over after the month I'm planning to stay will go to support services and supplies for the immigrants.
Here is a bit more about the Sanctuary Caravan:
Our approach is unique. It was developed by the New Sanctuary Coalition, the New York City-based parent organization. Volunteers in the mobile Pro Se Legal Clinic are trained to sensitively work with people to represent themselves through the immigration process. This approach empowers our migrant friends to be their own best advocates. We seek legal advice with experienced attorneys in our community, as needed, but our friends seeking asylum are at the center of all of our work. All of us volunteers are extensively trained.

A bit more about myself:
I believe that people have the right to migrate. I also believe that the current violence—both physical and bureaucratic—being directed at asylum seekers who have gathered at the border is immoral. All Sanctuary Caravan volunteers are committed to nonviolence, trauma informed communication, and we are equally committed to standing for liberty and equality for all.
Again, funds that you contribute will go directly for my travel to assist migrants on the Tijuana/US border.
