Work The World - Tanzania 2024
Donation protected
Hey!
My name is Amber, I am currently studying BSc Paramedic Science at UEA, Norfolk, and I am coming to the end of my second year!
In January-February 2024 as part of my third year, we as students have the opportunity to undergo an 'Elective Placement' for four weeks at a location of our choice, whether that be in the UK or internationally! We are required to send off applications to our chosen healthcare facility, stating what department we want to work in, why we have chosen their facility and the goals/targets we aim to achieve during this period.
I am SO excited to announce I have been successful in securing a place in TANZANIA, Africa, for three weeks of placement through a fantastic organisation called Work The World!
During these three weeks, I will be volunteering in the Emergency Department (A&E) and will hopefully have the opportunity to work within other departments in the hospital, to better my clinical skills and increase my exposure to clinical practice. Some examples of these departments are paediatric wards, burn wards, cancer wards and specialist wards e.g., cardiology.
I am over the moon and SO grateful to be able to have the opportunity to experience healthcare in a different country, to adapt my practice to different cultures and provide support to an underprivileged healthcare system that is unable to implement free examinations and medications.
An opportunity like this comes at a cost.
'Work The World' help assist in organising the duration of my three-week trip to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The cost of my three-week trip is £2140.
This fee provides me with:
- Full secure accommodation
- All-inclusive catering
- Travel to and from the hospital
- Airport pick up and drop off
- Language lessons x2 weekly
- Extracurricular activities on evenings and weekends
However, I am required to externally fund:
- Flights (approx £550-£650)
- Visa
- Travel Insurance
- Scrubs
- Uniform/hoodie
With all of this in mind, I am to raise £2800 to fund my three-week elective placement, flights and visa to Africa!
If anyone would be kind enough to donate ANYTHING they can to help fund my journey I will be forever grateful!!
I have attached the website below if anyone would like to have a look before donating, and also some photos off the Work The World website (not my own), to get an idea of what I will be doing while I'm out there!
I am so excited yet nervous for such an eye-opening experience, however, I am determined to grab this opportunity with both hands and use my time in Tanzania to improve and grow both as a clinician and as an individual.
Thank you so much!!
