Please help me with my unexpected medical emergency that happened in Toronto, Canada,
On March 15th, I flew to Toronto to go see my favorite country artist, Zach Bryan, and the next morning my friend Chantelle woke up to me having multiple seizures. I was brought to Toronto General Hospital by ambulance where I spent the night and was released the next morning. The next day Chantelle woke up to the same situation and I was brought to Toronto Western Hospital again by ambulance where I was put into an induced coma in ICU. The doctors believed that my medical situation was bad enough for myself to be flown on a medical plane back to my hometown of Calgary. But Alberta Health Care refused to pay for my medical flight.
In ICU, I underwent many tests of X-rays, MRI’s, CT scans, and a blood transfusion for the doctors to find a diagnosis. I was also put on a breathing tube and eventually a tacheometry for my oxygen. I was placed in a medically induced coma for over 1 and ½ months and do not remember any of the procedures.
The health care team in Toronto were amazing and they took great care of me every single day. But once I was flown back with a doctor to Calgary, Alberta to the next hospital (Foothills) they were surprised that I was there and stated that they didn’t expect me till the next week, even though I was promised a bed that day. Due to this, they put a patient in a hallway bed to have me in a room with oxygen.
I am not currently able to work nor drive a car. I will not be able to pay my bills.
I am on a waiting list for physical, occupational, and cognitive therapy. And there is no word of when I can start these therapies. To start my treatments immediately I only have a choice to go to private clinics.
I am a student at the University of Calgary studying in Kinesiology in my 4th year and was prepared to graduate in my month left of university. Due to my cognitive disabilities, I’m not sure when I will be able to finish my degree, where I want to work in healthcare and help people with similar conditions.
Part of these wonderful donations will go to my family who spent thousands of dollars to be by my side every single day with transportation, accommodations, and other expenses.
Please help with my medical condition that the doctors still don’t know the diagnosis.
