Work of Mercy in Peru

My 15 year old son has recently expressed a desire to engage in more charitable works of mercy. We were happy to hear this, and then even happier to hear that he had sought out a mission trip planned for this summer to Peru. It is run by the Tenley Study Center to combine a work of mercy with prayer and study of the Faith. We love this trip for him, but it’s unforunately not something we can fund. We told him he’d have to beg like a mendicant! To our delight, he is doing just that. Will writes: 

“This summer I am hoping to attend a service trip to Peru organized by the Tenley Study Center along with Youth Service International. The trip will consist of service projects such as restoring churches in villages, teaching catechism as well as a little English to children, and visiting needy elderly people. We will attend Mass, have daily meditations as well as pray the rosary. I feel an important call to this mission. I believe it will be a very serious spiritual journey for me and the other students. This trip will be a humbling experience that will strengthen charity in our hearts, loving our neighbors as ourselves, but above all I believe it will bring us closer to Christ.

Any gift you can make will go not simply to the cost of travel, and to the service projects we will do for poor Perivians, but to the greater glory of God.”

There are so many good directions money can go, and as parents we wish we could make the full charitable donation ourselves. What we can do is help him on his own pilgrimage to heaven, and this work of mercy seems like it’s part of that. And please, whether you can give or not, please, please, please pray for our William! He is going to set the world on fire, we are convinced of it!
