Woolsey Fire Rebuild Fund 4 David C
*Please see the L.A. Times Article featuring David here .
On Saturday, November 10th, my friend/surrogate family member David Carr learned that his home in Westlake Village had burned to the ground in the ferocious Woolsey Fire which had raged through the community. The video his neighbor sent (above) was apocalyptic, and showed only blackened ash and the shell of his truck where the home was that David had left behind when he departed for a trip. He now owns only a suitcase with some clothing. He has no home for himself, his two kids (whom he has a few times a week), and his girlfriend.
Naturally the thing that really matters in this story is that they are alive and healthy and safe, which is more than the fate of many. But I am devastated by the destruction I see for so many people, and feel helpless in the face of all this loss. So I'd like to start with helping one victim whom I know and care about begin the process of rebuilding (with his permission, of course.) As an L.A. County lifeguard and first responder himself, David makes a living helping his community when there is an emergency. I'd love to show him that his community is also there to help him as he faces the immediate logistic problems of rebuilding. Most urgent is finding a place to live temporarily for two adults and two children (any leads there would be appreciated!) Of course, he will also need to replace everything, from his underwear to his truck (pictured flattened by a beam in the photo below from news coverage of the courageous firefighters who tried and failed to save the house.)
So if you have anything to spare and want to be able to do something for the victims of these fires, please consider donating directly to one victim who could use the boost in starting over from scratch. All donations go directly to David. Thank you!!
