Last night, my aunt and uncle, Mo and Bob Woodward lost everything to the lightning fires in California’s Santa Cruz Mountains. They lost the home they built with their own hands. They lost two cottages they built to care for three generations of our family. After their kids moved away, the cottages provided them vital rental income. The following videos and photos show the beauty of the life they had built, and the devastation the fire inflicted upon it. Specifically, the following video shows their last attempt to save their home:
Transcript: “Oh, God, look at how close this is. Oop, Dad’s only doing one more run. I told him, ‘We got to go.’ Here he comes. But look at that. It’s hot. [Tractor noise.] There’s Grandpa! [Tractor passes.] Frickin’a. Okay, we got to go. It’s really hot. Look at that. Just wonder what it’s going to look like tomorrow. These redwoods trees are so resilient. They’re still magnificent, even in all of this.”
They returned this morning to find that everything they built was destroyed.

My aunt Mo was the family photographer and kept our family’s archives. The fire consumed over 30 boxes of family photos of four generations of our loved ones.
Thankfully, everyone is safe but the Woodwards lost everything.

It is with a heavy heart that I invite you to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign we call “The Resilient and Magnificent Woodward Family.”
All donations will go directly to Mo and Bob to help them recover.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
Love,
Nate Walker, proud nephew of Mo and Bob Woodward
