I am a 54 year old, 9 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. I have had 3 back surgeries to install implants in my neck and a titanium cage in my lower back. I currently work for a home remodeling company.
A few months ago, my VA doctor told me i had to have additional back surgery or i needed to file for disability. I have severe PTSD and neurapathy in my right leg and have little feeling in my right foot. I constantly trip and fall as i cant feel my right leg enough to lift it over objects as small as a rock. I average 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night due to the never ending back and leg pain
My doctor told me to get an attorney to help file the disability paperwork as i have refused additional surgery. The attorney told me that i am more than eligible and will receive disability but due to the number of claims in process, my claim would take between 24 and 36 months to be approved.
The problem with that is, I am not allowed to recieve an income. The attorney stated the governemnt will not pay someone who already has an income, so i was told to quit my job and not work.
My wife of 31 years and i have a 13 year old son and a mortgage payment. I can't quit my job.
Due to overwhelming medical bills, we have had to file bancruptcy and have no credit. We were able to re-affirm our home. I was also informed last weekend via a letter that my income exceeded the Va's medical coverage financial guideline by $363.00 and now I no longer have VA medical coverage.
My goal is to use any money that i receive to purchase a commercial grade tablesaw for $599, a band saw for $447 and a planer for $599.
Combined with the tools I have recently been able to purchase, i would be able to confidently open my own wood working shop and be able to provide a living for my family.
The home remodeling job i currently have will end within 5 weeks as my boss has had no requests for giving estimates in a few weeks.
Being able to purchase these tools is a huge deal to my family. At my age, I never thought that we would be so close to being homeless. Being out of work for the two years after my surgeries has had a negative impact for a very long time on us. This purchase would give me the opportunity to do what a man is supposed to do, feed and take care of his family.
Any help you may be able to give us will be greatly appreciated.
