At the 96th Annual South Carolina FFA State Convention, Woodmont Middle FFA competed in the Conduct of Chapter Meetings Leadership Development Event. According to the National FFA Organization, the Conduct of Chapter Meetings competition “introduces FFA members to parliamentary procedure as they learn how to conduct efficient meetings and build their communication skills.” The team consisted of seven 8th grade Woodmont Middle students: Lulu Hayes, Izzy Blatt, Cidney Sosebee, Aubrey Morrison, Sky McCall, Shaylynn Shaw, and Evelyn Nix. They completed a written test and demonstrated a mock business meeting. On June 8th, the team was announced as the state champion on stage during the fourth general session of the convention. The team will compete at the national level at the 96th National FFA Convention & Expo November 1-4, 2023.
In addition, South Carolina FFA hosted a statewide Agriscience Fair at the convention. Agriscience Fair is a science fair based on agricultural concepts. Three Woodmont Middle FFA members competed as individuals in the Agriscience Fair and won the state championship in their categories. Aiden Taylor won the state championship in the Social Science category. Shaylynn Shaw won the state championship in the Environmental Services/Natural Resources Systems category. Bobby Key won the state championship in the Plant Systems category. Two Woodmont Middle FFA members competed as a partnership and won the state championship in the Environmental Services/Natural Resources Systems category. All of these students will forward their projects on for national-level review in hopes to win recognition at the National FFA Convention in Novemeber.
