Woodies is a community-focused, not-for-profit club. It has been steadily built up over 30+ years and currently has over 60 members. It is a Men's Shed Association partner and has over 20% female membership.
As well as sharing and fostering woodcraft expertise, the Guild provides a health-promoting space for regular, positive social interaction for members, whose average age is early 70s. Over these decades, Woodies has completed many woodcraft projects for Eurobodalla Shire Council, the now ravaged Botanical gardens and numerous other charitable groups.
Recent examples include: full restoration of an antique phone booth for the Moruya Historical Society; extensive furniture and an authentic 19th Century rebuild of their Apothecary cabinet for the former Mogo Goldrush Colony; several outdoor bench seats for Anglicare Moruya; wildlife boxes for WIRES (wildlife rescue), furniture for Mogo Aboriginal Preschool, and a log-based, adventure playground circuit for the local Mogo community (through the Council).
The firestorm totally destroyed all Woodies' self-built structures, tools, machinery, other equipment and an entire shed full of local timber that had been painstakingly milled over several years . Insurance should cover some major machinery, but not the hundreds of small tools they have built up over decades. They need financial help to secure new premises, replace equipment, purchase building materials and start from scratch. With your help they can recover and eventually return to operational status, to keep providing for their Community.
