Women's GM Program

Super Heroines, Etc. and Cincinnati Adventurer's Guild are partnering on a program to encourage and empower women to go from being players to being GM's in RPGs.  The Women's GM Program is a peer support circle for women and non-binary folks to game master for each other in a supportive environment. Think of it as a writing circle for role playing games. Each person in the group will take a turn at being the game master for the other players until everyone has a chance to lead.

The goal is to create more opportunities for women and non-binary folks to be creative in the world of RPGs and encourage more women and non-binary folks to become game masters and host community games. A secondary goal is that by having more women and non-binary folks as GMs, more women and non-binary folks will be encouraged to participate as players.

The program focuses on giving the tools and knowledge necessary to organize and run games for a variety of groups of people.  It is designed to be encouraging and supportive with a workbook designed by local women GMs and a pack of GM supplies that goes beyond the basics. The workbook will cover topics such as Impostor Syndrome, How to Run a Session Zero, Inclusive Gaming, How to Teach Hidden Railroading, Collaborative Gaming, GMs as Managers, and Effective Brainstorming. The book will also include sections for self reflection and feedback for fellow GMs.

FAQs

How will the money be used?

The funds will be used to purchase GM starting supplies such as books, printed copies of a companion workbook, and marketing to help reach a diverse audience.

Budget

Books - $1,800
GM Survival Kit - $1,900
Printed Workbooks - $600 (includes cover designed by a wonderful nerdy artist!)
Marketing - $200 (includes targeted social media marketing to reach beyond
Con Tickets - $500 (tickets for mentors, participants, etc. to report out to the community at local related conventions)

Is my donation tax deductible?

Super Heroines, Etc. is a federally recognized non-profit organization, therefore any contributions are 100% tax-deductible. All donations to this program will go to Super Heroines, Etc.’s fund for the program. Upon submitting a donation (products, services, or monetary), Super Heroines, Etc. will issue a "Receipt of Charitable Donation" for tax purposes. It is always best to consult with a tax advisor for deduction questions.

What is the commitment for participants?

We ask participants to commit to participate for six months. This allows everyone in your cohort the chance to run a couple of games and receive valuable feedback from players.

How will we know if we're successful?

Mentors and participants will provide feedback via a formal evaluation process. We will also track participants over the next year to follow-up on their progress and use of skills learned in the program. Cincinnati Adventurer's Guild will also track the number of new women/non-binary folks who become GMs for their organization as well as new women/non-binary participants.

What happens if you're not fully funded?

We will likely start smaller than expected and be unable to offer some of the books and items in the GM Survival Kit.  We will scale back on the printed workbooks with a simpler cover and likely drop the funding for tickets to conventions. The downside is that we'll reach fewer folks, not be able to provide as many tools, and not be able to share our successes and challenges with the larger community for improving the program overall.
