WOMEN, OCEAN AND CLIMATE CHANGE

What is the project about?

Project ALLY is an underwater documentary film that will be shown in schools and educational institutions in Europe to bring attention to the fact that girls and women in Indonesia are not allowed to interact with the ocean to the same extent as men. Our aim is to create awareness to help local people and to bring more attention in that direction.

We strive for a world where it is the norm for women and girls to swim and snorkel and participate in decision-making processes about the ocean.

What are the goals and who is the target group?

In many tropical and subtropical countries with large ocean areas, including Indonesia, women and girls do not swim, snorkel and engage with the ocean as much as men and boys.

We actually have two target groups. The first is Westerners and potential political actors to make them aware of the social justice issue that women and girls face in Indonesia. We want to draw attention to the issue in order to attract action. Every movement starts with transparency and food for thought.

Our other target group is girls and women from Indonesia. The film is meant to be an inspiration and motivation to give girls and women the opportunity to get in touch with the sea without fear of social exclusion. We present them with female role models from their country who are proud of their interaction with the sea and prove that women in Indonesia also have the right to decide freely what they want to do.

In addition, we want to bring girls and women closer to nature on their doorstep (as many of them cannot even swim, they have never seen the reefs and do not know what there is to see, protect and marvel at). Because you protect what you love, but to love something you have to be able to experience it first.

Why should I support this project?

To encourage girls and women to be able to speak their minds and ideas !

And to take a step towards ocean conservation and climate change action.

What happens with the money if the funding is successful?

We will use the money to fund the travel expenses. Nina is already in Indonesia working on her coral research project. Sabrina and Tanu will join her and film the underwater documentation together. The money mainly goes in Travel costs for the team.

Who is behind the project?

We are a team of three people who are all committed to making the world a little better!

Nina is our scientist who does research on coral reefs in Indonesia.

Tanu is a travel photographer and meditation teacher who met Nina while volunteering in Nepal.

And I am the underwater photographer of the team, who will take you on a journey below the surface of the water.
