Greetings from the US chapter of Women in Geothermal (WING), whose mission is to promote the education, professional development and advancement of women in the geothermal community.
WING USA News Flash: The WING USA Team has been selected to serve as the next Global WING Chair!!!
We are excited to take this pivotal role and continue to advance WING’s goals, following in the footsteps of the New Zealand WING team. Building on their ground-breaking work, Team USA has developed a strategic plan to continue to increase WING’s impact around the geothermal world. With your support and input, we will begin our tenure as the Global WING Chair after a handover from Team New Zealand at WGC 2020 in Iceland.
We are also continuing our activities at this year’s Geothermal Resources Council Annual Meeting in Palm Springs, California (15-18 September 2019), where WING will once again deliver a range of activities to raise awareness and increase the visibility of women working in geothermal, and encourage support for our efforts among industry members of all genders.
We are raising funds now to support these activities, which will include the annual Global WING Awards for outstanding WING members and an inspirational speaker (both on Tuesday 17 September). In addition, we will helping with the golf tournament, sponsor a morning yoga class, a FunRun, the poster session and a WING membership drive. Our fundraising will also enable more participation by more WING USA Team members at WGC 2020, ensuring an effective transition as the United States takes on the Global Chair role.
Could you help sponsor our activities through a donation, small or large? Regardless of the size of your donation, you and/or your company will be acknowledged at the Tuesday WING event, on signs in the Expo, and on WING’s Facebook page.

ABOUT WING
WING’s goals are to:
· Increase membership to at least 1,500 people with an equal gender distribution. When 50% of our members are WINGmen, WING will no longer needed (effectively, we are planning our own demise).
· Identify barriers to women’s advancement and develop solutions to overcome them. We have already started a mentorship program and an initiative to support attendance and presentations by women at geothermal conferences and training programs.
· Increase the visibility of and participation by women in the geothermal industry. Each of us needs to do our part to overcome gender bias, promote advancement, and ensure fair treatment of women in our industry.
WING’s four core values encourage men and women to be:
Courageous – stimulate new ideas, enter unfamiliar territory, push for constructive change, understand and manage risk
Empowering – focus on strengths, connect the right people, champion efforts and ideas, recognize success, contribute to a positive working environment
Open – act with integrity, share experiences, promote and value diversity, give and accept constructive feedback, speak out on ethical issues
Caring – create safe work environments, promote empathy, think globally, demonstrate social responsibility, respect individuals, and help others succeed
Awards for each of our core values will be given to 4 WING members who exemplify these values at this year’s GRC Meeting.
