My name is Tracy Dinh, an inspired pilot. I am setting up this fund for Anh-Thu Nguyen, my role model and Flight Instructor at the nonprofit Asian Women in Aerospace and Aviation in Atlanta. Anh-Thu has inspired over 25 million people worldwide in her efforts to become the first Vietnamese-American woman to circumnavigate the globe in a single engine airplane to 25 countries, FLYING SOLO, to promote education in aerospace and aviation to all young girls and women around the world through Asian Women in Aerospace and Aviation, a nonprofit organization that she established.
Anh-Thu has worked relentlessly to overcome tremendous challenges since leaving behind her beloved war ravaged remote village in Tuy-Hoa, Vietnam, where she received her elementary and middle school education from a UNICEF-built school. Growing up in a village with no electricity, flying high was simply and realistically just a big dream, and dream big she did.
To me and to many other women around her, she is the epitome of women empowerment and strength. Arriving in America at the age of 12 with no English or financial resources, she worked hard to graduate valedictorian of her high school and top 10 of her college class from Purdue University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech. Along the way, she has faced constant setbacks and disappointments in her personal life and academic career, but she has always been determined to move forward. After years of interrupted training, she obtained her private pilot license and in 2017 became an AOPA Distinguished Flight Instructor, having taught hundreds of pilots and earning her Airline Transport Pilot certificate.
Regardless of her many achievements, Anh-Thu’s presence at airports in 2021, surprisingly, still is a source of confusion and a huge shock to many including airport security personnel, who on many occasions, have denied her entry through the gate. On a daily basis, she constantly has to explain herself and convince people that she's a pilot. After facing so many challenges, it is now her mission and civic responsibility to raise visibility and awareness to women in aviation and to promote aerospace education for young girls. Only 6% of all pilots in the world are female and only 8 women have successfully completed this global flight.
Her life stories are inspirational and have taught me and other women around her to dare to dream the impossible even when things are difficult. She's is truly my heroine and quite simply a living legend in my eyes. Please help us make this mission possible.
The funds will be used for the Summer 2022 global trip. Any remaining funds will be used for scholarships for young girls interested in aerospace and aviation. Thank you all for your support.

Chúng tôi đang kêu gọi quỹ đóng góp cho giảng viên hướng dẫn bay của chúng tôi, cô Anh-Thu Nguyen với mong muốn trở thành người phi công Mỹ gốc Việt đầu tiên đi vòng quanh thế giới một mình, đến 25 quốc gia và vùng lãnh thổ chỉ bằng chiếc máy bay nhỏ bé một động cơ. Cô ấy muốn khơi dậy niềm đam mê và tăng cường sự hiểu biết về lĩnh vực hàng không vũ trụ cho tất cả những người phụ nữ trên khắp thế giới.
Bản thân Anh-Thu đã không ngừng vượt qua những thử thách to lớn kể từ khi cô ấy rời khỏi làng quê nghèo thân yêu thuộc Hòa-Xuân, Tuy- Hòa, Phú Yên, Việt Nam - nơi cô ấy đã hoàn thành xong chương trình học cấp 2 (trung học cơ sở ngày nay). Lớn lên trong một ngôi làng không có điện, ước mơ được bay cao bay xa đối với rất nhiều người vẫn chỉ là mơ ước, nhưng Anh-Thu đã làm được điều đó cùng với một nỗ lực phi thường.
Đối với tôi và nhiều phụ nữ khác xung quanh cô ấy, cô ấy là hình ảnh thu nhỏ của sự nghị lực và sức mạnh của phụ nữ. Đặt chân đến nước Mỹ khi mới 12 tuổi, không biết tiếng Anh và chẳng có gì ngoài hai bàn tay trắng. Cô ấy đã phấn đấu hết mình để đạt thủ khoa tốt nghiệp Trung học phổ thông, cùng với vị trí nằm trong top 10 trong lớp đại học của cô tại trường đại học Purdue (một đại học danh tiếng top 10 nước Mỹ). Và hiện tại cô đang là nghiên cứu sinh Kỹ sư hàng không vũ trụ tại Học viện công nghệ Georgia (Georgia Tech-học viện công nghệ danh tiếng top 3 nước Mỹ)). Trong suốt quá trình này, cô luôn phải đối mặt với những khó khăn, thất bại trong cuộc sống cá nhân cũng như học tập, nhưng Anh-Thu luôn quyết tâm tiến lên phía trước để có được chứng chỉ lái máy bay riêng và đặc biệt vào năm 2017, cô ấy đã trở thành giảng viên bay xuất sắc của AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), đã hướng dẫn cho hàng trăm phi công và bản thân cô cũng đã hoàn thành chứng chỉ ATP (Airline Transport Pilot – Bằng lái máy bay thương mại cỡ lớn).
Bất kể những thành tích đã đạt được, sự xuất hiện của Anh-Thu tại các sân bay vẫn tạo ra sự nghi ngờ của các nhân viên an ninh, và một vài lần từ chối cô nhập cảnh mặc dù cô luôn cố gắng tự giải thích và thuyết phục mọi người rằng cô là một phi công. Vì vậy, nhiệm vụ và trách nhiệm của chúng tôi là nâng cao tầm nhìn, nhận thức trong ngành hàng không cho tất cả các cô gái trẻ, vì chỉ có 6% phi công trên toàn thế giới là nữ và cho đến nay chỉ có 8 phụ nữ đã hoàn thành sứ mệnh bay vòng quanh thế giới.
