Locky's Legacy Wildlife Shelter Wombat Enclosure

Donation protected
This is a photo of Lyndel and Don and some of the wombats who were evacuated from the recent bushfires that they are caring for. The bushfires have added an extra 4 mouths to feed and house at their already busy Locky’s Legacy Wildlife Shelter. Locky’s Legacy is a registered not for profit shelter (ABN 71 472 154 797) at the end of Toomuc Valley road, Upper Pakenham.

Lyndel and Don are in desperate need of a new enclosure before the juvenile wombats grow too big for the nursery. They have received one small grant which has enabled them to purchase some sleepers to start the project but it is less than 1/10 of what they need to complete the enclosure to house these animals until they are ready for release. Lyndel and Don also do emergency roadside rescue, are part of our groundbreaking Wildlife Road Toll Survey Group and somehow manage to work whilst also feeding and caring full time for wombats, kangaroos, possums, birds, native ducks etc.

We are hoping that with your help and many others we can all pull together to show what our wonderful community can do.

What we need:
Wombat Enclosure
+ 150m x 3.6m of colorbond fencing (ironstone colour)
+ 150m x 3.6m of clear corrugated roofing panels
+ 150m x 1m cyclone style diamond chain mesh fencing for ground barriers
+ 15 bags of concrete
+ 50 x 3m treated pine fence posts
+ 4 x 3m (100 x100) cypress pine posts
+ Assorted (can be secondhand) concrete pipes, approx 400mm wide, to use as tunnels for wombats.

Access Area
+ Crushed rock for laneway (approx 100m long)

We will also be doing two working bees to erect the enclosure and any help with this would be very welcome. If you're in the position to donate materials, products or labour, please contact us.

Alternatively, any monetary donations are gratefully received, to put directly towards purchasing the materials needed for this project. Please contact us if you would prefer to donate directly to our bank account (less fees for us means more help for the wombats!).
