Wolaba Youth Project

Wolaba Youth Project aims to create a space for the youth of Puerto Viejo, Limon. We want to provide a place where children can learn and share ideas and talents that they would otherwise not have access to. This is a place for them to ask questions, share ideas, and be provided the mentorship and guidance as they navigate their own experiences in life.

The youth is the future, and we want to focus on empowering them with an environment that embraces their ideas and identities as they navigate becoming leaders of tomorrow. Wolaba Youth is  a family of local children that spend time with their mentor, Dario Menendez. Together they work on their multiple talents, when most of their families would not be able to spend the time with them doing so.

Our end goal is clear- we want to open a center where the youth can go and connect with each other, find mentorship, and attend camps, trainings, and activities. The center will also be home to all youth inspired performances and events.

The first step is hosting our very first youth camp. Right now is hard time for families given the current state of our world. During the month of July/ August, we will host a group of children from the area whom will attend a 4 week camp that will introduce them to skills such as permaculture and cacao harvesting, while honing in on their talents such as surfing, body boarding, and more. We aim to host ten youth, however if we are able raise more funds, we will be able to open enrollment to a much larger group! We will follow all protocols for social distancing and safety protocols mandated by the government of Costa Rica.

Our first fundraiser will go towards:

*Providing transportation to and from camp locations sites for all children
*Equipment needed for trainings and workshops
*Hiring local businesses and organizations to host various activities
 *Pay of mentors and guides

Any funds raised that go unused will be saved for the future investment in a location for the program.

We understand that you may not be able to contribute in a monetary way at the moment. We will keep this fundraiser open as we build this program from the ground up. You can also donate your expertise in ( i.e. grant funding, mentorship), if interested please reach out to us!
