WOKE UP BLIND AT AGE OF 52, HELP ROB & JANET

Donation protected
Imagine, you wake up one morning and you cannot see anything.

Your eyes are in complete darkness and for that one moment while you’re laying on your back in bed as your mind and body are waking up, you think that your eyelids have not yet lifted. Then you realise, that you cannot see anymore, and you’re left in darkness.

The panic of calling your Wife “Janet, help, come quickly… I can’t see anything!”

Your feeling disorientated, trying to put sounds together and feel around a room to get up, finding the hands of your partner which are trembling in yours with fear and you hear panic in their voices.

In that one moment, your life has changed… You get an emergency eye appointment, to be told that the nerves behind your eyes can not be fixed, and as a result your will now be blind for life.

This happened to Janet’s husband Rob a few months ago at only 52 years of age. As a result his flooring business of 25 years has come to an end, depending on only Janet’s income for the house hold.

Rob now needs help with all the simple tasks around the house, from being made a cup of tea, walking around the home.

In our area, the help of a guide dog takes 4 years, and as a result of Covid, there is little help given to Janet to support her husband and his needs while at home.

Being completely blind and only able to see a very dark and blurred shadow from one eye is not enough for Rob to cope all day alone while Janet works at a Hospital.

A donation, of any amount that you can give to help this small family, to become more independent again and regain confidence around there own home would really help.

Rob’s optic nerve at the back of his eyes cannot be operated on.

Being able to buy Rob some aids, such as vision sticks, handrails, a chair lift or even a kettle that has markings on the side to enable him to make a drink would be a massive help.

We would like to try and raise £8000.00 for them to buy relevant items to help around the home, which could possibly include things like a bath Lift, home safety alert pagers and lifting cushions to help both Rob and his wife Janet, maintain a lifestyle they once enjoyed together with their grandchildren.

Thank you for taking the time in reading their story, and thank you for any donation given however big or small.
