Hi all,
As some of you know, our beloved 'Dober-dork' Reuben has recently been diagnosed with Wobbler’s Syndrome, a painful and progressive spinal condition. It’s been heartbreaking to see him struggle to walk, and without surgery, his quality of life will continue to decline.
We’ve done everything we can to prepare for his surgery, which is booked for August, but the costs are stacking up... The total for his diagnosis, surgery, and aftercare is expected to be around £15,000, and our insurance only covers £4,000 per year. Because his surgery crosses over into a new policy year, we’ll get a little extra help - but we’re still left needing to find around £7,000.
We didn’t want it to come to this, asking for help is never easy, but after a phone call from the vet yesterday, we’ve learned the cost is likely to increase further. Reuben has tested 50% positive for Von Willebrand Disease, a blood clotting disorder, which means he now needs additional blood typing and arrangements made to source compatible blood for a possible transfusion on surgery day. These extra requirements are costly, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure he’s safe and fully supported.
We’re already downsizing our home to help cover expenses, we’re willing to do anything for him. A few kind people have already messaged saying they’d be happy to donate and encouraged us to set up this GoFundMe - so we’re reaching out now to kindly ask for support from the community to help Reuben get the care he needs.
If you’re able to donate, share, or even just offer advice on getting further support/advice, we’d be beyond grateful.. Reuben means the world to us, and every little bit truly helps.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
