Bailee’s road to recovery

Hi everyone, my name is Emily and this is my best friend Bailee. Bailee recently had a spontaneous bowel perforation due to complications of a Desmoid tumor located in her abdomen. Bailee underwent emergency surgery on 2/4 to fix the bowel perf, what we hoped would be the end of this nightmare quickly spiraled into much more devastating news.

Bailee has had an on going battle since she was a toddler only 4 years old involving what they discovered to be desmoid tumors. These noncancerous tumors most often times are located in the abdomen/arms/legs and can be very tricky to be removed. Bailee has gone under numerous surgeries to remove these tumors as far back as she can remember. Our junior year of college she had the opportunity to start a new trial chemotherapy drug to help shrink her tumors, and it did just that. Her tumors had shrunk smaller than anyone thought they could and all seemed to be turning around.

Fast forward to 2021 Bailee got to marry the love of her life Justin and the plan for growing a family quickly came into view. Knowing that she wanted to be a mother more than anything in the world Bailee made the choice to stop taking the chemo and try for a baby. Then we got the news we all had been hoping and praying for in 2022, Bailee was pregnant with our sweet Charlotte. Bailee, Judd, and all of their love ones knew the risk of what pregnancy could do to Bailee regarding her tumors and if/how much they would grow. Oct 2023 Charlotte Greaves made her way into the world and all of Bailee’s life long dreams had come true.

Just shortly after giving birth to her beautiful baby girl Bailee had her annual check up with her team at the Mayo Clinic to check on the status of her tumors. As we all expected they had grown, and grown a significant amount at that. Her team of doctors quickly came up with a plan to start another new chemo drug to help once again shrink her tumors down.

Which now brings us to present day, after only being able to start her new chemo for one day we suddenly found that one of these tumors has been putting pressure on her intestines which lead to ischemia and eventually the spontaneous bowel perforation. Bailee has undergone one major abdominal surgery on 2/4/2024 just 4 short months after having her daughter and is now on the schedule for 2/7/2024 at 0730 to undergo a very risky life altering procedure to hopefully remove the tumor that is causing all the issues.

With all of that being said, i am coming here to ask for prayers, kind thoughts, and a miracle. This procedure is coming with a lot of life adjustment for both Bailee and Justin. Both will be out of work for the foreseeable future cooped up at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Sadly life doesn’t stop in times like these. Bills will soon start stacking up, medical supplies will be needed for when Bailee can finally return home, and we can’t forget that in the mix of all of this they are trying to raise their dream rainbow baby. We are asking for any help you are willing to give, i can’t thank you enough in advance for taking the time to read Bailee’s story and help with this journey. Bailee is the strongest person i have had the honor of knowing and loving. She takes all the bad news and still wears a smile on her face and continues to have so much faith in her medical team, the lord, and everyone who is watching over her. There will never be another person like Bailee and i wish you all could have the chance to know and love her.
