Our father was recently arrested by police in St. Augustine and is currently being held at Baker County Detention Center. Despite not being charged with a crime, he was denied bond after the judge considered him a “flight risk.” Our family is now urgently seeking a federal attorney to help us file a habeas corpus petition so we can fight for his release and ensure he receives fair treatment.

We already have an immigration attorney working on his case, but after his bond was denied she strongly recommended that we also hire a federal lawyer to help challenge the decision and protect his rights.

In the week leading up to his arrest, the same police officer had repeatedly been around the construction site where my father and his employees were working. That same week, the officer also stopped another crew that had been working there. At one point that week, some of the workers decided to test whether the officer was targeting them and sent someone driving with a valid license. The officer stopped him, and he ended up leaving with four tickets. A few minutes later, the officer returned to the construction site with backup and began asking everyone there for identification. Months prior, that same officer had also taken my uncle into custody in the same area.

This situation has been incredibly difficult for our family, both emotionally and financially. Our father is a devoted parent to three daughters who are waiting for him to come home. He has always been someone who puts others before himself, and many of our friends, family, and colleagues know him as a person who helps anyone in need without expecting anything in return.

My sisters have been greatly affected by this situation. Without us even mentioning what is happening, I once heard my youngest sister say, “No, dad can’t go to Mexico,” which showed how deeply this is impacting them. Seeing them go through this has been heartbreaking. I myself have also been struggling. I have suddenly become responsible for the well-being of my family while also trying to continue my college education. I never imagined I would have to write to my professors explaining why I am unable to complete assignments during such a difficult time. My mother has been very emotional through all of this, and it makes me feel powerless seeing her like that.

For more than 20 years, my father has worked hard to provide for our family and build a life in the United States. He has always demonstrated strong character, responsibility, and dedication to his family and community.

The funds raised will go directly toward legal fees for a federal attorney and, if granted, the bond required to secure his release. Legal representation is essential for us to fight this situation and bring him home.

Mi padre fue recientemente arrestado por la policía en St. Augustine y actualmente se encuentra detenido en el Baker County Detention Center. A pesar de no haber sido acusado de ningún delito, se le negó la fianza porque el juez lo consideró un “riesgo de fuga”. Nuestra familia ahora está buscando urgentemente un abogado federal que nos ayude a presentar un habeas corpus para poder luchar por su liberación y asegurarnos de que reciba un trato justo.

Ya contamos con una abogada de inmigración trabajando en su caso, pero después de que le negaron la fianza ella nos recomendó fuertemente que también contratáramos un abogado federal para ayudar a impugnar la decisión y proteger sus derechos.

En la semana previa a su arresto, el mismo policía había estado rondando repetidamente el sitio de construcción donde mi padre y sus empleados estaban trabajando. Ese día,

decidieron comprobar si el oficial realmente los estaba señalando y enviaron a alguien conduciendo con una licencia válida. El oficial lo detuvo y terminó recibiendo cuatro multas. Unos minutos después, el oficial regresó al sitio de trabajo con refuerzos y comenzó a pedir identificación a todos los que estaban allí. Esa misma semana, el mismo policía también detuvo a otra grupo que estaba trabajando allí. Meses antes, ese mismo oficial también había detenido a mi tío en esa misma área.

Esta situación ha sido increíblemente difícil para nuestra familia, tanto emocional como financieramente. Nuestro padre es un padre dedicado de tres hijas que están esperando que regrese a casa. Él siempre ha sido una persona que pone las necesidades de los demás antes que las suyas, y muchos de nuestros amigos, familiares y colegas lo conocen como alguien que ayuda a cualquiera sin esperar nada a cambio.

Mis hermanas se han visto profundamente afectadas por esta situación. Sin que nosotros siquiera mencionáramos lo que estaba pasando, una vez escuché a mi hermana menor decir: “No, papá no se puede ir a México”, lo que demuestra lo mucho que esto las está afectando. Verlas pasar por esto ha sido muy doloroso.

Yo también he estado teniendo muchas dificultades. De repente me he convertido en responsable del bienestar de mi familia mientras intento continuar con mis estudios. Nunca imaginé que tendría que escribirle an mis profesores explicando por qué no puedo completar mis tareas. Mi madre ha estado muy emocional con todo esto, y me hace sentir impotente verla así.

Durante más de 20 años, mi padre ha trabajado arduamente para proveer para nuestra familia y construir una vida en los Estados Unidos. Siempre ha demostrado un gran carácter, responsabilidad y dedicación hacia su familia y su comunidad.

Los fondos recaudados se destinarán directamente a los honorarios legales de un abogado federal y, si se concede, a la fianza necesaria para asegurar su liberación. La representación legal es esencial para que podamos luchar por esta situación y traer a nuestro padre de vuelta a casa.
