Hi all, I want to say thanks right away for even taking the time to read whats going on with my dad, Jim. It’s been an absolute rollercoaster for our family the last couple weeks so apologies for not keeping everyone completely in the loop. I’m going to try to keep this as short as I can so apologies if there’s some small details skipped.
On January 24th my dad got up and went off to work like any other day. As the day went on he started to not feel well what so ever (he had been sick off and on for quite a while but this was different). He started having chest pain and was dizzy. After going to the hospital in Watford City and after some blood tests they determined his hemoglobin level was very low and thought it was possible that he was internally bleeding. The Drs in Watford decided to keep him overnight for a blood transfusion. He felt MUCH better after receiving blood and was sent home. A few days later he was back to square one again… which is expected since there were no tests done to see why the levels were so low in the first place. He went back to Watford Hospital again and they ended up referring him to Sanford Hospital in Bismark due to how low his levels had went in such a short amount of time.
Fast forward to February 3rd he arrives to Sanford Hospital and goes through NUMEROUS tests, blood draws, X-Rays, CT scans, MRIs, a colonoscopy and EGD. The Drs in Bismark ended up finding a very large mass on his kidney which is determined to be stage 3 Renal cancer.. The cancer has covered his kidney and has started up an artery towards his heart and also threw a large blood clot which is now very close to his heart. After lots of consultations with multiple doctors a cardiologist and urologist agreed to work together to do a very extensive 5 hour surgery to remove his kidney, the mass, and the blood clot all at once.
His surgery was today (Monday February 13th). They were able to remove the clot, kidney, and mass. We were told he tolerated things well but has a long way from being fully recovered and sent home. He’s in ICU for now still sedated, intubated and being closely monitored. It’s possible he could be in the hospital for another 5 weeks for recovery… which leads me to why I’m setting up this fundraiser. He’s not going to be able to work anymore, probably for the rest of his life. My mom, Wendy, has literally been by his side this entire journey. She’s been out of work for almost a month now. On top of all of this my dad doesn’t currently have health insurance, so their bills are starting to really pile up and cause lots of unneeded stress. We’ve tried applying for financial assistance through the hospitals but were told he doesn’t qualify so a go fund me is our last hope.. it’s a complete shot in the dark but I’m hoping we can raise enough to help relieve some of this financial burden so he can focus on getting better and going home once he wakes up. If you can’t donate please keep him in your thoughts and prayers
I’ll update this as time goes on and once we know more about what’s exactly going to happen. Thank you ❤️
