Andrew Begay yinishyé. My name is Andrew Begay. I'm a student at the University of New Mexico. I am majoring in Languages (Navajo and French) and Minoring in Anthropology. My academic path can defined simply as non-traditional. I began at NYU in 2013 but eventually left and spent years depressed and succumbing to addiction. In 2022, I finally found the confidence and self-worth to pull my self out and get sober. Sobriety led me to a healthy life. I began running avidly and set out to run a marathon and complete my bachelor's degree.
Since enrolling at UNM, I have trained for and completed the Shiprock Marathon, I have worked part-time at a job where I have shown excellent service and taken on more and more responsibilities, and I have earned a spot on Dean's List every semester. The past two years have been difficult but I look forward everyday to accomplish my academic goal. Unfortunately, due to some technical limitations concerning credits earned, my scholarship dried up partially through this Spring 2024 semester. I only need two more semesters at UNM to finish, or 30 credits.
In order to pay the bursar balance and continue my education, I need to raise over 3,000 dollars. I have already worked this balance down from 5,000 with a several awards and scholarships. I am still working on scholarship and grant applications to bring this amount down further. I am also seeking more funding for the upcoming semesters and I remain optimistic about paying for the next year.
Any contributions will be greatly appreciated. By donating, you would be helping me finish a decade long journey.
