As many of you know, my friend Ryan Riddock was diagnosed with ALS three years ago. Since then, as is the case with ALL ALS patients, I (as well as everyone close to Ryan) have watched as Ryan’s mobility and body function deteriorate at a shocking rate – even though post diagnosis, we all knew what was coming. This absurd disease couldn’t have “chosen” a better friend, brother, son, husband… human being to go after. If you know Ryan, you know what exactly what I mean.
The reality of the situation is that Ryan has limited time left with us. True to his nature, he has a vision of creating a foundation that’s goal will be to help others in like situations as well contributing to his own ongoing care and the welfare of his family. Six months ago I made the decision to move to Chandler, AZ and help Ryan in any way that I can. Helping Ryan create and operate a foundation that will carry on the essence of Ryan’s HUGE HEART is something that I’m passionate about and I’m hoping you can help us get it started.
Ryan’s vision performs two distinct functions (in his own words):
1) Start a non-profit that helps other disabled people participate in fun activities that they would otherwise not be able to do for financial reasons. As I have learned, in this country being disabled and/or dying comes with a huge price tag. Due to the high cost of medical care, many disabled people can't afford to do cool things like attend baseball or football games, go on fishing trips, or even things as simple as going to the movies. I want to organize to help others in my position. Any donations for this cause will be tax deductible and hopefully help others in my position year-after-year!!
2) Alongside this program will be an option for people to donate to a family trust that will help my family afford bucket list items, the cost of care in the later stages of ALS, the final staged of ALS and expenses incurred to my family post Ryan :)! Lol!! These donations will not be tax deductible.
With Love, Ryan
Thank you so much to those who have already donated and to those who are doing so now.
All you need is LOVE. BeatALS!
