We desperately need to raise funds to give Hudson a fair and fighting chance at life.

Hudson is a 7‑year‑old gentle giant — a Sarplaninac with a heart even bigger than his size. Calm, shy, and deeply kind, Hudson has always been a soft soul in a world that wasn’t kind to him.

He spent his entire early life locked away. Adopted in Bosnia and used as a guard dog , Hudson was discarded when his family realised his nature was too gentle to protect their home. His puppyhood and youth were taken from him — yet somehow, he never stopped believing in kindness.

Hudson was rescued by the Azil Danica team, under the guidance of nationwide organisation NFA, and through the dedication of the Meadow of Hope team, he made the long journey to the UK.

For the very first time in his life, Hudson finally had everything he had always deserved:

• A sister to play with

• A warm coat for rainy walks

• A soft bed that belongs only to him

• Arms that wrap around him with love

He had just begun living.

Hudson travelled to the UK having passed all required health checks and was clinically well, with no signs of illness. What has followed has been sudden, shocking, and devastating.

Hudson is now critically unwell and is currently admitted to the University of Edinburgh Veterinary Hospital, where specialist teams are fighting to stabilise him and uncover what is happening inside his body.

What we know so far:

• Hudson is suffering from severe anaemia — while his PCV has risen to 30%, this remains dangerously unstable

• He has experienced repeated nosebleeds, extreme weakness, and profound exhaustion

• A CT scan has revealed over 20 pellets lodged throughout his body, likely from historic trauma

• His blood protein levels are extremely high, raising serious concern

• His blood pressure is critically high

• While his renal (kidney) readings are now normal, this remains under close monitoring

• Hudson is also experiencing significant joint pain, adding to his discomfort and distress.

Our gentle, once‑playful boy is now weak, sore, and struggling — fading before our eyes.

Hudson requires intensive monitoring, blood transfusions, pain management, advanced diagnostics, and specialist care as the veterinary team works to determine the underlying cause and how best to treat it.

Hudson is insured, but due to policy restrictions and exclusions relating to this condition, his life‑saving treatment is not covered, leaving the rescue to fund his care.

The estimated cost to give Hudson a fighting chance is £4,000.
