Meet my family; Thomas (Papa Thomas), Faith Rose (our teenager-enough said!), Angelika (the name says it all) and myself; Georgina.
Many of us have been touched by Cancer. Our family is no different. Our dear Oma (thomas' mom) passed from Pancreatic Cancer in January of 2014. Thomas was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) March 2015. He is being cared for through the wonderful loving hands of the Florida Cancer Specialists and The Moffitt Center. He has chemo daily for 14 days with 2 additional shots twice a week. He is than off for 7 days but continues his shots - than the cycle begins again. He has been approved to recieve a stem cell transplant; I will know more of this in mid July when we meet with the Transplant Dr.
My husband is a Certified German Chef - he is wunderbar, ask anyone who has had the luck of having him cook for them. He is not just my husband he is my best friend. He has done everything for his family and now I must do everything for him. I dont know what I would do with out him. He is the strongest human I know but this is moving fast. As a provider I see a husband/father who is thoroughly lost on whats going on, what is happening, and all the "whys" in between.
He has been unemployed since March 2015. He has been approved for Social Security Disability and labeled as a "Termi" (terminal). His approval was expedited due to his condition and he will begin collecting in....October 2015. Yea - some expediting! I work Part Time and my pay is; well lets just say not enough. I can handle all the bills; utilities, gas, kids needs, medical (so far), food, yet always seem to be short for rent and the car payment. Our goal is to make the rent and car payment till October. I am old school, this form of media is new to me. I am reaching out as many of you have asked how you can help, what can you do. We are all at a loss of words. I pray daily, hourly, in fact I dont think I stop. The prayers are for him and for the girls - the loves of his life. Financially we have no clue how we will make it to October. So I have prayers for this to work too. With all this said....I send a prayer out to all of you and thank you for taking a moment to get to know us.
"If I have learned anything during my journey thus far, it is that people need one another. The presence of other people is essential - caring people, helpful people, interesting people, friendly people, and thoughtful people. These people take the grind out of life. About the time we are tempted to think we can handle things all alone....BOOM! We run into some obstacle and need assistance. We discover all over again that we are not nearly as self sufficient as we thought."
