On Valentine's 2016 in the early morning, neighbors awoke to an explosion and soon found out their neighbors home was engulfed in flames.
Escaping with only their pajamas on their back and their dog. The Fire began at 12:30 am.
Annie and her son Joe had just turned in for the night when they heard the noise and Joe discovered the flames.
Rusty Lowe with the Hoover Fire Department tells WBRC a mom and her son were home when the fire started. They made it out safely.
"I woke up to my son screaming get out of the house mom there's a fire! I assumed it was something just very small but it erupted into something very big very quickly," homeowner Annie said.
"The devastation that I see in my house is unbelievable. Of course it's the memories like the children's Valentines and things like that that I'll miss the most. but we're safe and we've got a future as long as we're okay," she continued.
The home is a total loss.
Annie, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment in addition to last night's events, is a kind soul always willing to help others. Even in this time of need, with tears in her eyes. Annie spoke to the community asking they take care of themselves before worrying about them.
