Help Athena Fight FIP

Our sweet 6-month-old kitten Athena has been in the hospital since last Friday. What started as a little extra sleepiness quickly became something far more serious. At first, she had a fever and was given antibiotics, but within days her temperature spiked dangerously high (up to 107°F). Despite still eating and being alert at the beginning, her condition declined rapidly.

Athena has been diagnosed with the most aggressive form of FIP—Dry/Neuro FIP, a rare mutation of feline coronavirus that attacks the nervous system and brain. By Tuesday, she could no longer walk, control her bladder, or even properly respond with her eyes. The vet told us it didn’t look good and suggested we prepare for the worst.

But Athena hasn’t given up—and neither have we. With the help of an FIP-support group and a specialized vet, we started her on GS-441524, an experimental medication that has shown a 70–90% success rate in treating FIP. Neuro FIP is the hardest to fight, but even after only a couple of days on treatment, we’ve already seen signs of hope:

  • She was able to stand (with assistance) and take a few steps.
  • She flipped her feet into the right position on her own.
  • She followed us with her eyes for the first time in days.
  • Her fever has finally broken, and her bloodwork shows her organs are still strong.

She even found the strength to climb into my arms and rest her head on my shoulder. The vet, who has never seen such a turnaround so quickly, was thrilled to witness her progress firsthand.

We know Athena has a long fight ahead, and the road won’t be easy—but she’s showing us she wants to keep going. Unfortunately, the cost of hospitalization, bloodwork, and ongoing treatment is overwhelming.

If you’re able, please consider donating to help us cover Athena’s medical bills and give her the best chance to keep fighting. Every little bit helps, whether it’s $5, $10, or simply sharing this with others who might be able to help.

Thank you so much for your love, prayers, and support for our little fighter.
