Dani Riposo-Beloved Teacher, Mother, & Visionary
She had to stop teaching Yoga 2 years ago at age 76 when she was diagnosed with lymphoma. She was just too weak to teach though teaching is her life.
We were all shocked. She is the epitome of health, eats organically, exercises, yoga etc. She survived the treatments that put her in remission but it wasn’t easy. She tried teaching yoga again last summer. It was hard because she was weak and having other physical problems with her speech that even swallowing was difficult. She was so happy to be teaching again, yet she wasn’t able to continue to do it as her body challenged her.
Nobody could say why it was happening. She did her own research and said I think I have ALS.
Sadly, she was correct. There is no cure for Bulbar ALS but there are things that help like Acupuncture, P.T., Speech Therapy etc. Insurance only covers what they cover, leaving much for the patient to deal with. They would like to put her on a medicine that is $2,000.00 a month.
She has her house for sale and at this point is thinking about moving to North Carolina where her doctors are located and the weather is more tolerable for her.
She has been the voice for many. Standing strong against injustices, Teacher of Dance, NIA, Yoga, and a wise and loving woman. Now we have the opportunity to love, and give back to her. We can help her have a better quality of life while she is here. We can let her know we appreciate all she shared with us to make our lives better.
She would love to hear from the people who she has touched. She would love to hear from you via emails or Facebook. She lost most of her addresses of friends and her students. She is weak and mostly can't talk. Writing is starting to be harder, but if she can respond, she will!
I want to tell you a story about my mom who raised 9 children. I remember when she was in her 50's and she worked as the fitness coordinator and teacher at a fitness club. She saw somebody throw a job application into the garbage that was filled out. She heard the employee say to somebody "we don’t hire black people except for custodian jobs".
She came home infuriated. She said "I can’t work for a company that does that". So many people told her "you're in your 50's. Your lucky to even have the job. If you make waves, you will most likely lose your career."
She thought about it and then said it is the right thing to do. She fought, she got them to change their unwritten policy, and luckily she did not lose her Job.
There is just so much I admire about my mom. She has been my greatest teacher.
Please support her in any way that you can.
Thank you.

Ripples of your gifts-
Hi Dani,
As you receive healing and gain strength, know that I think of you
often. As I stretch my body, I hear your voice! As I practice yoga, I remember
there is a pillow under my head on side triangle. :)
As I notice the sparkles of sunshine, hear a morning bird wake up the earth or pause and remind myself to be grounded, your wisdom resonates within me. As I feel the sadness and
joys of others, I know my heart is open. As I recall the insights gained in
polarity, I can feel your healing touch...only a memory away. As I recall the
special June birthday celebrations you created for Jean, Judy and I, cherished
moments that bring tears of gratitude to my eyes and a certainty that I feel
Jean's presence long after her physical form rested.
I woke up thinking of you Dani and I wanted you to know that my life is better with you in it, the lessons resonate within my consciousness and my spirit is more aligned with this moment
with the "sprinkles of awareness" you have shared over the years! I am blessed
by you and today I wanted to share with you! With Love and Gratitude,
Teresa
