Every day more than 22 veterans commit suicide as a result of the crippling effects of PTSD and CRS (Combat Related Stress)- this is more than we lose in actual combat. On July 24th I will be swimming 1.2miles in Lake Norman (LKN) to raise money and awareness for this epidemic but also for an effective solution - "Operation Restored Warrior".
To date, over 600 warriors have been through ORW's "Drop Zone" program - a 5-day experience in which warriors talk and fellowship with others like them. It is not about medication. It is about truly healing the heart, the mind and the body... and the results speak for themselves. ORW proudly boasts a 100% success rate in that no one who has been through the program has harmed themselves or another. 11 of these men have been from the LKN area. We are making a local impact with our veterans!!
It costs $2,000 to put a Warrior through the "Drop Zone" progam - they paid nothing, except their transportation to and from the facility. 100% of the monies raised go to putting the men through the program. And the facilitators are not on salary, they are former Special Operations veterans themselves, who understand the pain and the challenges facing their brothers in arms. They have been in their boots and they have fought their fight.
I have been affiliated with this event (The LKN Navy SEAL Swim) and this Mission for the last three years. But.. this is the first year I am actually swimming. We (SEAL Swim Charities) are asking that each participant in the community swim raise a minimum of $500 for ORW, but I want to do more. I want to SAVE A LIFE! You can help me achieve this goal and know that you too have helped to Serve Those Who Have Served Us!
