The four of us listed above are study abroad students from Creighton University. We have spent the last few months in Santiago, Domican Republic taking classes, embracing the culture, and learning the language. One of our most rewarding experiences however has been serving twice a week at Los Ángeles de CONANI.
CONANI is an orphanage for children with mild to severe disabilties. We hope to fundraise enough money to provide beds for all of the children and install security cameras throughout the facility. CONANI has 97 children, half of which are bed ridden. As there are not enough beds, due to over capacity, some of them are put to sleep on the cement floor. Security cameras are also greatly needed to ensure the safety of the kids and to hold visitors and staff accountable.
Our service group is trying to meet our goal of $7,000 USD by December 5th. CONANI has been a life giving service site for each and every one of us as we have fostered close relationships with some of the most wonderful and capable children in the world.
Although CONANI has given us all much more than we could ever give in return, this is a way to make a lasting positive contribution to amazing people we have come to know and love. Please join us in helping these incredible children in whichever way you can!
