My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma back in December 2024. She has cancer lesions on multiple parts of her bones, including rib and hip bones.
Her bone marrow transplant was a success about 6 weeks ago.
We are hoping she goes into remission by September, but she goes back to have another bone marrow biopsy and PET scan in August to determine if she’s close to remission in October.
Mom has been so positive and has high spirits with everything and has an amazing soul. The Mayo Hospital has been wonderful to us since it all began.
Now the hard part:
I’m currently working a part-time job so I can also fully care for my mother, who is currently not working due to her condition and procedures. We don’t believe she will be able to return to work until the end of the year. With my part-time wages, I’m struggling with paying all the household bills, including rent, while also receiving very minimal help from social workers.
Mom just got her head shaved, which I think she’s been a bit sad about, but doesn’t show it. Some family members pitched in some money for a wig for her Birthday 08/03, which mom is super excited about.
The biggest issue is being able to pay for bills, RENT, groceries, medication, and gas.
