My name is Layla and I am 16 years old. Due to Covid-19 two of my middle school field trips were canceled, just like the rest of my graduating class. My High School band and choir teachers have put together a field trip to give our class a chance to make-up for the trips we lost. There has also been various other school trips I was unable to attend due to cost and other reasons. I am really looking forward to going on this trip and have been putting my best efforts into school, and working hard to raise my grades and prioritize my responsibilities in order to attend. This current semester, I have B's and A's in all of my classes. I am even taking college courses in an attempt to earn an associates degree in Cybersecurity when I graduate High School in 2025 (There is an extra year to earn all of my credits). I haven't had the typical high school experience many of my peers were blessed to have, and to make up for it I want my senior year to be the full embodiment of a high school experience. I hope to attend football games, school dances, or any other events that I haven't gotten to experience in the past 3 years. Due to my brother having diabetes and severe depression and my mom being diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer, we are very limited financially due to medical expenses. Knowing that these events have caused great stress on my family, I haven't asked for much. I didn't have a Sweet 16, nor did I expect any gifts on any holidays. I have all that I need, a home, food, loving family/friends supporting me, a car, a cell phone, school, etc. Despite the needs, everyone has wants that need to be fulfilled as well every once in a while. All I ask is to have a senior year worth remembering. I have one more year left until I become a legal adult. As exciting as it sounds, there's always the saying, "enjoy your youth," so here I am, trying to spend every last second I have to do just that. I know other fundraisers may help a greater cause, but just remember that anything helps.
