On October 28th of 2022, I got a call saying that my dad was in the hospital due to a seizure that occurred while he was giving a presentation at work. Since that day, my family has been thrown into a rollercoaster of medical appointments and hospitalizations. In December, we discovered the worst possible news—that my father has a glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer. He recently underwent an operation to remove the tumor, and he is now undergoing chemo and radiation, as well as participating in a clinical trial. Despite some lingering speech issues, my dad has taken all of this like an absolute champ. As his only child, I came back home to New York for a while to aid in the recovery process after his surgery, and my mom has been working very hard to try and get him the best care possible. All of these circumstances have impacted my parents’ ability to work, which is difficult considering the massive costs of cancer treatment. In fact, one of his medical treatments will cost hundreds of dollars a month for six months before that cost skyrockets to $20,000 every single month (not to mention the costs of his other treatments). This treatment requires that he shave off his hair (a lifelong source of pride for him—he’s 57 with a full head of light brown hair!) every couple of days and wear an electronic device taped to his head every day for at least eighteen hours.
Those who know my dad can attest to his dedication to his work and his family. He is currently a Principal at his structural engineering firm, where he has worked since 1997 and for which he holds great pride. He’s also known for his good sense of humor, his intellect, and of course his trademark suspenders. My mother and I love him very much, and we would greatly appreciate any donations to make this difficult period a bit easier. No amount is too little! Donations are a BIG help, but if unable, please share our story with friends and family. Thank you so much for your time and your support.
Love,
