What was supposed to be a simple procedure on March 7th turned into something unexpected. Last year, I was diagnosed with DCIS—a type of breast cancer that required a double mastectomy and then a simple procedure to have my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. The mastectomy surgery went fine; the removal of my ovaries was a different story.
On March 7, we went in for the simple procedure and were sent home. On March 8th, we had to call 911 because I passed out while attempting to make my way to the bathroom. I now know that I had internal bleeding, which required emergency surgery. I have a huge midline incision to show for it. It was determined during that surgery that my pancreas was nicked the day before during that simple procedure. Since then, I've been in and out of the hospital (I've only been home a total of 5 days since) with complications from the surgery.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help with the medical and monthly bills. After traveling as nurses for many years, we moved back home and built our dream house last year to raise our two young children. Whatever happens, we wish and hope to be able to do so. Please share what you can.
