Dear family, friends, and supporters,

Our brother-in-law, John Bower, was diagnosed in September of 2023 with esophageal cancer at the age of 49. He had no history of smoking or tobacco use; instead, he had reflux that caused Barrett's Esophagus, which turned cancerous.

John underwent chemo and radiation and then a major surgery in February 2024 to remove the tumor. He was briefly considered cancer-free, but the cancer returned and spread to his bones. He spent the next 18 months undergoing two more kinds of chemotherapy, as well as a hip replacement when the cancer ate through the bone. The cancer has continued to spread, and recently John was told by his doctor that he is too weak to continue treatment. It is with heavy hearts that we have to share that he has entered hospice care.

John made a career change just a few months before he received his diagnosis, so his benefits had not kicked in yet. This means that he does not have long-term disability or life insurance. John has four kids ages 20, 18, 15, and 13. We are creating this fundraiser to ease some of the financial burden as his wife, Melissa (Rich's sister), faces raising and caring for their family by herself.

All proceeds raised will be used to pay for funeral expenses and bills.

John and Melissa are used to being the people in service to others. We are now asking you to come alongside them during this very difficult and emotional time. Continued prayers for John and his whole family are very much appreciated.
