Actions have impact.
The decisions we make have ripple effects extending further than we may ever expect.
In October, I was pushed out of a job I loved after an agreement was ignored and a choice was made to necessitate an access to resources I don’t have.
This has left me without any income or health insurance. Unsure how I’ll continue to pay rent for my Poughkeepsie apartment, take my dog to the vet, or access mental health services.
Two days after Jeff Rindler, the Executive Director of the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center chose to center people with power and access to power…I chose to take some of mine back. I posted my resignation letter publicly on my social media with the intention of both controlling the narrative and offering the transparency the Center is so resistant to sharing.
Now I am showing up again in transparency. In vulnerability, honesty, and humility.
I have been unemployed for more than two months, depleting my savings to maintain my cost of living and I worry for my sustainability.
I’m coming to my community, to my family for support. Asking you to help mitigate the ripple effects thoughtlessly initiated by a continued focus on wealthy and access. I applied for a job I was beyond qualified for. I started and stayed in a job I loved. And eventually, I had to leave a job because I don’t have a savings that would allow to me buy a car in the next year nor an expendable income to afford regular travel to the more rural parts of our Hudson Valley region.
Now, as I look at the New Year I have some uncertainty about what comes next. I don't know when I'll get a job or what kind of work I'll be doing. I don't know what will become of the Center or if Jeff Rindler will ever feel called to name his motives or speak to his decisions. I don't know if the people pushed into action will continue to organize with the hope of creating a more representative and safe LGBTQ community for us all. But I do know, I'll keep doing passion driven and intentional work. I know I will remain committed to my Hudson Valley family. And, I know that I will do this only hand in hand, alongside you.
