Kevin Driscoll Hurricane Ian Recovery

My name is Hamid Babaei, I live in Fremont California. I am creating this fundraiser for my colleague Kevin Driscoll from Fort Meyers, Florida, who lost his house to hurricane Ian last week. Let's contribute to complete hurricane recovery for Kevin and his family. All proceeds will be deposited to Kevin's account directly.

In his own words: this last week has been one for the books - Hurricane was projected to be North of us - nature changed its mind and hit us square in the face!

All of the islands that we frequented are gone - Sanibel, Captiva, Fort Myers, and Pine Island - As well, our wedding venue on Boca Grande scheduled for the 1st of October was destroyed as well.

The house we had been making memories in is also destroyed - and not salvageable - as is the story for most of us that were affected not just by the wind but also by the water. We spent a few days shoveling the mud and water out - and finally evacuated a few hours North to an Airbnb to assess and map out our immediate next steps - which are to ensure we have housing, a safe haven for our dogs, and to finish the salvage process and move on with our lives - which we are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do.

As you are aware, we were also caring for my mother under home hospice - before the storm, my brother drove down from Port Charlotte to get her - and situate her at his home - he was also impacted by this storm and was able to get her and his family to Tampa once the storm passed to ensure her continuing care and oversight.

We were humbled by the immediate reaction by our neighbors and support infrastructure in our town of Cape Coral - it is clear that people do care and jump in to help - even when they need that help at the same time - these last 7 days have entirely driven us down a course that was completely unexpected - and unpredicted - what is clear however is that we have friends, neighbors and even strangers that have positively impacted us - I am also thankful for my extended work family as well - just some of the conversations have helped bring back some normalcy and needed distraction as we continue down this altered course.
