Who are we?
Wizards Special Olympics Basketball Club is one of 58 Special Olympic Clubs in the Ulster Region.
The Club was formed in January 2007 and we have 25 athletes and 11 volunteers who meet on Thursday evenings at Bangor Grammar School in Bangor, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. It is a safe space where people of all ages and abilities come to enjoy not only the sport and the benefits of exercise but the joy of social interaction in a caring and inclusive environment.
What are we raising funds for?
Special Olympics are holding the All Ireland Summer Games in Dublin from 18 to 21 June 2026. There will be around 1,200 athletes taking part in a variety of sporting competitions. The Wizards Basketball Club are delighted that 7 of our female athletes were selected to represent the Ulster Region in the basketball tournament. It is a great achievement and honour to represent our province and it means a lot to each of the athletes. They are beyond excited to go to Dublin and many family members and club volunteers will be there to cheer them on!
How much do we need to raise?
The cost per athlete is £455 which includes their Ulster Kits, travel, food and accommodation so we aim to raise £3,185 in total. We held a successful Quiz night in January and raised £2,100 so we are very close to achieving the full amount.
Any donation you can give to help us reach our target would be really appreciated.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!
