Wizards emergency vet fund

*update see below*
Hi everyone, Rachel here, as many of you know already, Wizard, my magical boy Wizard, took unwell on Friday 22nd of December and is currently still in Edinburgh Small Animal Hospital.

He was admitted to the Royal Dick Vet School on Sunday 24th and on Wednesday 27th December he had a major surgery to remove a mass from behind his heart, it was attached to his right lung & diaphragm, sections of each had to be cut out.
He is currently in ICU and is fighting hard
we are not out of the woods yet, recovery is going to be long.

Wizard IS insured, when I took out the insurance when he was a pup, I chose a silver cover package, unfortunately this only covers up to £6000
Never in a million years did I expect anything like this to happen! We have never had to claim anything on Wizards insurance, he is such a super fit boy!

But as everyone knows in the past 4 years Vet fees have increased dramatically, well, the cost of everything has increased!
The Vet fees are currently sitting at £11,793 as of 29/12/23
(with another 3 days at least expected to be in the hospital)
This means I need to find anywhere between 6-8 thousand to pay for his life saving treatment.

I haven’t seen Wizard in 5 days now, the longest we have been apart, but I do know he is receiving the best possible care from all the amazing vets and vet nurses in Edinburgh and I receive updates twice a day on his progress, each day he is getting stronger.

I understand more than most the cost of living crisis is very real and very difficult, but please if you can offer any donation at all, I will be eternally grateful. This boy means everything to me, and could never imagine my life without him.
When surgery was needed it was never an option to not do it, I begged the vets please just make him well again.

I have been overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone that knows Wizard, either knowing him personally or just by following his adventures online. Thank you for all the messages, well wishes & prayers for him to get better. It is working! He is on the mend ❤️‍
Thank you so much everyone.

Breakdown of costs so far (29/12/23)

*update*
6 weeks post op, Wizard started to behave a little odd, his behaviour was telling me something wasn’t right.
His breathing started to get fast again, and on Friday 9th of Feb I took him to our local vet for a checkup, they listened to his heart & lungs, all sounded ok? But agreed his breathing was fast. Saturday 10th Feb Wizard was doing a lot of retching, Sunday 11th I just wasn’t happy with his breathing rate & decided to take him to the emergency Vets now in Dundee.
By the time we got through there & he was examined it was apparent he was really struggling to breathe, he was so lethargic, just lying in the waiting room. They called Edinburgh Vet school & we rushed through there.
Wizard had a scan which showed the fluid had build up in his chest cavity & will need to stay in for further investigation.
Monday 12th I got an update to let me know they had drained a litre of fluid from his chest! And a CT scan confirmed the worst, it was happening again! An abscess could be seen on the scan - so the only option is another surgery!
Tuesday 13th Feb - Wizard went for his second life saving surgery, when the surgeons got inside his chest they discovered a huge mass (12cm) and some areas of infected tissues, they successfully removed it all.
I got daily updates from the amazing team in Edinburgh, Wizard was charming everyone at the Vet school and was really fighting to get better ❤️‍
Saturday 17th I was able to go pick Wizard up, I have never seen him so excited to see me, my heart nearly exploded.
I cannot believe he has been through so much and still the happiest boy!
Monday 19th I had to take Wizard back to our vet as he could not hold any food down (we think due to all the meds, there was quite a lot!!) 2 anti sickness jags helped him out and he was able to eat & keep his antibiotics down.
Wizard is continuing to recover well, the surgical wound is healing great, and he is eating very well!

The cost of Wizards treatment has now gone from 12,717 to 21,414!! A breakdown of his cost are as follows:

Vets now emergency 2293.23
Edinburgh operation 9948.38
Abbey check up & antibiotics 109.50
Abbey scan & bloods 366
Total 12717.11

Abbey consultation 56
Vets now emergency 332.86
Edinburgh operation 8220.88
Abbey anti sickness jags 147.18
Total 8756.92

Grand total of £21474.03 so far He is scheduled in for a scan in Edinburgh at the end of March (6 weeks post operation number 2!)
I am hoping, praying, wishing with all my heart this is finally it! ❤️
