Hello! Thank you for checking out our project. We are raising some last-minute funds to support our Wizard Rave Ritual show.
We will be presenting an initial performance of the piece at The Rim of the World Road Concert on July 26th and 27th. We also intend to continue to develop the piece for subsequent future performances, and funds raised will also support this effort.
Project Description:
The Wizard Rave Ritual is an experimental theatre piece that also functions as an acoustic dance party and a magic spell of protection for trans people and the endangered birds of California.
Drawing on the local history of the area, performers will appear as wizards from The Enchanted Forest Amusement Park, which existed on the Rim of the World Highway from 1961 - 1963. The wizards, draped in long robes and bearing acoustic musical instruments, will summon the spirits of various endangered birds, including the California Condor, Burrowing Owl, California Gnatcatcher, and the Least Bell’s Vireo.
These bird spirits will manifest as masked and costumed dancers. Bearing the colors of the trans flag, the spirit dancers connect our current queer concerns to the image of endangered birds to honor the interconnectedness of all life and as an imagistic support to the trans community. We must protect the special rare birds that are our trans fellow beings just as we must protect the actual birds that have a right to this land and sky.
