Help animals who need veterinary care in Africa.
Hi, our names are Jess, Izzy and Faye and we are part of the equine course at Kidderminster College. We have been offered to go on a trip on behalf of the college to South Africa to help with things such as the veterinary care of the animals in the sanctuaries such as Donkeys, Zebras and Giraffes. This once in a lifetime experience will included providing care for the 16 horses such as grooming, feeding and field maintenance, we also will be getting involved with basic veterinary care such as wound treatments, injections and weekly tick dipping. Stundents will also be carrying out community work in Boschdraai Village. The village consists of around 350 residents, many of whom are unemployed or subsistence farmers growing their own small crops and who have chickens. Students join in seeing the community members’ donkeys and carts and with the team, offer input into the donkeys’ care and well-being. There are also often pregnant mares who need care too.
We will also be involved in wildlife conservation activities such as:
•Pangolin and aardvark telemetry tracking •Buffalo herd management
•Plains zebra and giraffe monitoring
•Interpretive bush walks and tracking Game (wildlife) drives
•Game capture (seasonal) We are raising funds to help support us to be able to make the trip possible as it’s a once in a life time experience. The funds we raise will go towards the transportation, accommodation and to support the cost of vaccinations we need to go. Any kind of donations, whether it’s small or big, will be so important to us as it will make a huge difference and will help us reach our goal.
