My name is John Vicente, founder and President of BROTHERS HELPING BROTHERS, a 501 (c)(3) non profit. I spent 35 years, 8 months and 4 days in the Florida Department of Corrections. I was released on life parole on March 12, 2019. I was terminated from parole on January 25, 2023. Even before being terminated, I have been advocating for the long incarcerated offenders who are parole eligible. I drive to parole hearings in Tallahassee and other parts of the state wherever parole hearings are held. I speak on behalf of the offenders and prepare family and friends what to expect and whats proper to say. I also pick up the released offenders that don't a ride to Noah's Outreach in Tampa, the halfway house where all parole released offenders have to go. I bring clothing so they are released with proper clothing and provide their first meal of their choice as a free man. On the way, I instruct them of what is expected of a contributing member of society. On the way, I provide a phone so they are able to communicate with their family and friends. I call their community control officer and re entry sheriff to familiarize them. I communicate daily with 60 of those released offenders answering any questions they have.
