Donate to the North Fork Farm Project - Book

Hi,

My name is Jeremy Garretson and I am a professional photographer with a love for the North Fork's landscape. Over the past 7 years, I have been documenting varying aspects of agriculture on the North Fork. I've put together a rather nice body of work that I believe captures the essence of what makes the North Fork so special. Apart from the amazing community that is out here, I think the essence of the North Fork lies in its rich agriculture and maritime history. My long-term goal is to produce two separate coffee table books that document this important part of where we live. The intent of this GoFundMe is to publish the North Fork Farm Project (working title).

I plan to use a combination of digital photography and film photography and also include some essays, quotes, and interviews. More recently I have been photographing farms with my 4x5 film camera and have found that the nostalgic look of the film really lends itself to capturing these farms. At around $8-$10 a shot, it is not the most practical type of photography, but it adds a historic look to the image that you just can't reproduce. I am hoping to raise awareness and appreciation for our local farmers. The book will mostly be landscape images, with the occasional portrait of a farmer.

Self-publishing a coffee table book is expensive and comes with some challenges. Based on my research, $6,000 should give me enough to start publishing. The number of first editions will be limited, but I plan on reinvesting and producing more editions. I am still doing some research, but my goal is to give back to the farmers by donating 10% of all book sales. I'm open to ideas, but am currently thinking of either Peconic Land Trust or Long Island Farm Bureau.
