With medical bills and professional care-taking

Hi everyone, my name is Devon, and I'm raising funds for my mom, Kelley, and our family (my brother, Ethan, and my dad, Rod). As many of you may know, in September of 2020, my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer after doctors discovered a brain tumor the size of an egg in her skull. Shortly after emergency brain surgery, she underwent 16 rounds and many months of chemotherapy and radiation. While the chemo and radiation helped to reduce the size of what was left of the tumor, the radiation caused left-sided paralysis and a host of other problems. This paralysis came on slowly, causing her to lose her balance and break her hip one random day in September of 2021. Fast forward to October 2022, and Kelley now has complete left-sided paralysis (no use of her left hand, leg, or foot). Due to many months with no movement, she is the weakest she has ever been. She relies on comprehensive care around the clock for help with daily tasks that many of us take for granted (getting dressed, eating, going to the bathroom, turning the tv on/off, using her phone, etc). A recent visit with her neuro-oncology team revealed that Kelley is now dealing with progressive hydrocephalus, an abnormal buildup of fluid in the cavities deep within the brain. Her doctors believe this build-up is due to the significant brain swelling caused by radiation. The combination of brain swelling and hydrocephalus causes Kelley to be less alert, extremely tired, weak, and suffer from short-term memory loss.

Currently, Kelley is in a care facility getting daily and nightly help, but insurance will no longer cover this care. We are asking our friends and family to donate to help pay for the advanced, skilled in-home nursing care that mom will need when she comes home that is not covered by insurance, medical bills that have piled up over the last two years, and a surgery that will take place this month to help alleviate the hydrocephalus.
