Hello, my name is Shermare, and I’m a single mom to my little boy, Bronx. I was recently diagnosed with Lupus and Sarcoidosis, and while I’m waiting for disability approval, my son and I are struggling to cover both my medications and a safe place to stay.

While caring for my mother during her battle with cancer, I suddenly became very ill myself. After weeks of swelling, pain, and exhaustion, I was hospitalized and finally diagnosed. Managing these conditions has been overwhelming — physically, emotionally, and financially.

Right now, Bronx and I often move between hotels, motels, and sometimes even my car. I’m terrified of losing my car, which I rely on to get to doctor’s appointments. My medications alone cost about $134 every two weeks after insurance, and I simply can’t afford them on top of housing costs.
