Hi, my wife Julia will be traveling from Oregon to Florida on January 8th to undergo surgery to remove one or more tumors from her parathyroid glands.
On November 29th she was sent to the hospital with stroke-like symptoms. On December 18th, she was finally diagnosed with PHPT and scheduled for surgery on January 10th.
Parathyroid gland surgery is a specialty surgery which is why Julia is traveling to Florida. We considered a surgeon in Phoenix, LA, and Portland and made the best choice for her. This means there will be fees to travel across the country along with medical costs and costs of living we need help with.
There are several spots the surgeon will check in surgery for tumor removal. The incision is made on the front of the neck. We hope that Julia’s tumors are not in her chest cavity or they will have to have the thoracic surgeon scheduled and be in Florida longer because it is dangerously close to the heart.
Julia is the full time caregiver for all 4 of our children, the eldest Keira is 8 years old and has high needs and complex disabilities including but not limited to Autism. It has been unnerving for her to have her routine change so drastically and Julia can’t wait to be healthy enough to return to her regular activities with all of the kids. The status of malignancy at this point is unknown but unexpected and we will find out for sure after the surgery.
