In the early stages, Kaiser Permanente said he was a candidate for surgery, but because of chemo he was too weak to have the surgery and is no longer a candidate anymore. In order to get a second opinion and receive care at City of Hope Hospital, just to be seen for the first appointment is $1000, not including the treatment that he may need from there on. He is also undergoing alternative medicine treatment that is also very expensive, but may treat the disease and help his quality of life.
