Hello friends, family, and friends/family of those whom I already know and are willing to donate to my GoFundMe. My name is Dustyn Schellenberg, a student at Vanguard University of Southern California in the City of Costa Mesa, California. This is a private Christian institution that is built on the foundation of the Lord's teachings and fellowship and focuses on the three core principles of:
- Truth: Exploring and contributing to cultural, intellectual, and spiritual heritage.
- Virtue: Transcending cultural limitations and choosing a righteous path.
- Service: Engaging in civic responsibility and caring for others. Additionally, the university emphasizes justice, equity, and peacemaking as essential values, aiming to create a community marked by excellence and Christian values.
This fall semester I will be entering my Junior year. However, upon registering and planning my schedule, I was not able to add and register for my last planned class for the semester. This was all due to a charge on my account of exactly $7,395.00 that was suddenly added with no notice, letter, or email as to why. This is also an overdue amount on top of my required monthly payments for this semester. In turn, I reached out to the Vanguard Office of Accounting, who explained to me that FAFSA had determined that I no longer qualified for the Pell Grant (a need-based grant for those in financial struggle that need an extra boost in funds to pay for school needs), despite the fact that my Mom cannot work as she prioritizes my care and looking after me and my medical necessities, as well as my Dad being in and out of work as there have been struggles in the Motion Picture Industry and was therefore most definitely in financial need. I was then further told that I would be fine attending this fall semester but would not be able to add that last class as I previously mentioned, nor would I be able to register for the Fall Semester until this balance is paid off and must be paid by the end of November of this year.
This being said, I may have to work extra hard in keeping on top of my school workload and grades and may also have to find a job to work things out, or if it comes down to it... take a gap semester and find a job for sure, which would also withhold me from graduating with my Class of 2027. Though I do not want to take a gap semester or double my load, I know that I have to do what must be done, but I am also hoping and praying that by God's will and by His grace that He, as well as you... my friends, family, and peers... that everything will work out in the end.
If all of you would feel so graciously led to give anything that you can, that would mean a lot to me. Whether giving means donating any amount big or small, because any little thing matters and both can and will go a long way, or even if finances cannot permit giving a donation... simply giving your time and thoughts by sharing my story and situation with others who may also feel guided to and led to give or further spread this cause because not only my education, but my closer connection to God and my faith by being a proud family member of this institution is such a blessing and major part of the person I am now. I am praying that I can raise enough money here to simply pay off just that amount, but I would be so gracious and overwhelmed by all of your blessings if God allows for even more to be raised as well.
Thank you all for your time, love, and thoughts.
